This member-run forum has been started in consultation with existing members of IC and their comments are a matter of IC documented record, contained within a thread started in the Web Board: IC Help entitled Where can Scene newcomers get informed help on IC?.

For someone totally new to BDSM and IC it's a struggle to find answers to simple little questions like:

• Who can I trust on IC?
• Who are your immediate friends as soon as you've activated your account?
• Who in IC can be asked immediately for assistance on the sanity of what is being asked by a contact?

Fortunately the last page of the "Where can Scene newcomers get informed help on IC?" thread provided all the answers:

• No one
• No one
• Everyone

Proving that you can ask everyone for assistance and get meaningful results. But you have to be persistent and relatively thick-skinned as well (it took 91 posts to get this answer, but the right question was only asked in the 90th post - technically the answer was immediate.).

So although it looks paradoxical that you have no immediate friends and yet can ask everyone for help, the friend you are actually calling upon is the "wisdom of crowds". You could try and win the lottery using it or you could use it instead to grope and feel your way around IC and BDSM. Go to the main boards and main user-run forums and ask the people there everything you need to know to really start to enjoy your IC and BDSM worlds. What you ask through posting and the answers you get in the threads will continue to help the people who come along after you.

Friends: you have to accumulate all by yourself, memoing people, starting threads and chatting away in chat rooms.

Trust: more difficult. The trust which is trusted most on IC is real-life meetings in munches, clubs or other types of social event. Until you've started to meet people in the real-world be careful who you're prepared to trust online.

• Trust no one until you start meeting real people
• You have no friends until you make some
• Ask anything you need to know, but be thick skinned on those boards
