LGRA, Glasgow is an informal monthly Saturday lunchtime Vanilla meeting (munch) organised for and by an eclectic mix of alternative thinkers. Where?
Currently (and for the past two years) takes place in a venue in Glasgow City Centre, usually on the 3rd Sat of the month. The event shall be posted at least a week in advance of it taking place.
The meeting runs from 1.30pm until at least 5pm (or whenever the last person leaves, if later than 5pm). Who attends?
YOU!!! Hopefully ![]()
This munch is attended by a wide variety of people from across the board. The LGRA is OPEN to ALL. The venue is Wheelchair friendly with regards to street level access, there are also disabled / wheelchair accessible toilets.
Please note that although the main area that we normally book is raised, we can also have low tables placed just at the entrance to the reserved area for any wheelchair users and take over that area too. How many attend?
Attendance can vary - minimum around 10, the maximum we have had in one month was around 40(ish).
Most months, it is generally well attended and (along with all the other Munches) is a great way for newbies (and oldies) to meet, chat and get to discuss things with like-minded people.
Munches are an excellent introduction to the 'scene' and fellow 'alternatives' and allow you to meet others as a first step prior to attending clubs etc. Organisers
This profile is operated by @KittyDeVil who shall now, once again be co-hosting the LGRA alongside Gretsch most months, from July 2011.
If it occurs, that there is a month where neither of us can host, we shall endeavour to find someone to host for that month.
A huge Thank You to Purrfect_Kit and Mad_Eye_Moody who have kept this event running over the last two years and of course, to everyone who has attended. Contact
Contact can be made via this profile (private message) which will be checked on a regular daily basis.
There will shortly be a mobile number made available which you can contact for meet and greets. This phone shall be answered by Gretsch or Kitty DeVil. History of LGRA
For those who ask, 'What does LGRA stand for?', let me explain a little of the history.
The LGRA was originally set up as a one-off lunchtime meeting as an alternative to the Thursday evening munches, strictly because at that time it was impossible for the originators of the LGRA to attend regularly on a Thursday evening.
There was no other meeting on a Saturday, at the time, so this seemed a prospectively good idea and was organised and advertised on IC as 'Informal Coffee Morning'. The first one took place on 10th March 2007 and had around 18 people turn up.
This first meet was a success but was not intended to be anything more than a one-off. However, a fellow ICer (and Fetlifer) suggested a second one as they had a friend up from Down South for the weekend. So, a second 'Informal Coffee Morning' was organised for the 21st April but this time was advertised on IC as 'Glasgow Lunch'. At this second meeting which was very well attended, it was suggested that this should become a regular monthly occurrence.
Therefore a name was required, lots were banded around and the fellow ICer (mentioned previously) jokingly said ' great idea to make it monthly, there is nothing better than getting rat arsed on a Sat afternoon with friends' (or words to that effect).
So, with tongue planted firmly in cheek, it was decided to call it 'Let's Get Rat-Arsed on a Saturday afternoon with friends' which, being a bit of a mouthful - was shortened to 'Let's Get Rat Arsed' and finally 'LGRA'. So, there you have it - of course there is NO obligation whatsoever to even have an alcoholic drink, the venues have always been decided on somewhere accessible to everyone and a pub that sells reasonably priced food and drinks (including coffees and teas).
Please do come join us, we would love to meet you.
