While I was listening to it (I was up early that morning with toothache) I was also thinking of how standards of truth telling and trustworthiness in corporate life have changed over my 30+ years of working life in mainly large blue chip companies, and also on how political integrity and rhetoric has changed, sometimes giving a false impression by being "economical" or "selective" with the truth rather than by outright lies. | I've been rather controversial and outspoken in the last couple of weeks, particularly on the matter of honesty and deceit (and what I have claimed are the shades in between) with partners and family members. This has resulted in a lot of private correspondence as well as posted responses; some supportive, some incomprehending, some disagreeing unreasonably, some disagreeing with me in a genuine and thought-provoking way. I've changed my IC name back to Wonderer, from "angel_boy" which was used to describe me, despite 3 people suggesting angel_boy was nice and suited me. Thanks for the encouragement, but I'm far too aware of my own faults to think of myself as angelic. In fact only yesterday I found myself entertaining naughty thoughts and fantasies  I also don't want to be a hostage to fortune by using a name which might be interpreted as claiming some kind of moral superiority. I've also been called sanctimonious on here before! So - back to Wonderer it is. | ||

| Horrendously; been gradually growing for nearly a week. Had to see dentist today (delayed it till she was open again as I didn't think I was a "serious emergency") and find I have root infection in tooth next to wisdom. I;ve had several before and the tooth dies and has to be either root/cavity-filled or extracted. I asked whether it was due to the inadequacy of my brushing. She says no; this type of infection happens as a result of deep fillings long ago, from earlier dentists, in the days when they used to drill and fill for filling's sake. | Well, I'm on my own tonight. So reverting to bachelor behaviour. Eating dinner off a tray in front of the TV, instead of at the table. Drinking fruit juice out of the carton instead of from a glass. Will my depravity know no end? It's also all completely unconsensual. My dearest has no idea and probably wouldn't approve. | That's about it really. A couple suffered a terrible tragedy 4 years ago. Their daughter went missing, presumed dead. In the 4 years since, tens of thousands of other children around the world will have gone missing presumed dead ( http://www.foreignpolicy.com/articles/2011/10/06... ). But this couple with their strong lobbying skills seem to think their plight is a national tragedy, should dominate the news agenda again and again, and deserves a disproportionate share of police resources on a case which is almost certainly futile. | Well, I don't really do mobile phones very much except as a backup in case of emergency (e.g. calling the AA). Never seen the piont of being permanently on call to all and sundry. But a few people on here have found it useful, and a few colleagues have too, so I've shared the number, and used it on occasion, e.g. when trying to meet someone who I don't recognise, that sort of thing.
