| As a long-time sesquipedalian, I have always rejoiced in interesting words of all kinds (not only long ones). This morning, I flicked the tube on whilst eating my breakfast and happened upon an episode of “Poirot”. Within a few seconds I was delighted to hear 'hors de combat' (by reference to a man's 'manhood' and 'avuncular'. Both terms struck in their deliciousness as being so rarely used.
