| 6 May 08 | Writing In The Margins (12) | (9 May 08, 2:10 AM by blacksheepboy) |
| I often find myself at odds with the dominant point of view. My eyes dart over the pages of words, rows and rows of tiny black-ink heads nodding vigorously in agreement, congratulating each other on how right they are, how much truth they speak. Every few minutes a new voice adds itself to the chorus. The words get bigger, the typeface bolder. Now they are a mob shouting loudly. [more...] | ||

| 3 May 08 | The Big Light (2) | (3 May 08, 11:50 PM by pleasureswitch) |
| Someone said something, a small remark on IC, in amongst the pants and the rants and the c*nts, that set off a big light in my head. It is still shining now. He will know who he is by the time this blog reaches its close. I'm really glad he exists. [more...] | ||
| 25 Apr 08 | Sometimes I Feel Like Alan Partridge (13) | (25 Apr 08, 10:10 PM by cherubrequired) |
| You know that episode of I'm Alan Partridge, when Alan, (now a lowly DJ for Radio Norwich and living in a Travelodge), visits his friend Dan and his wife? He is sitting innocently on the chintzy sofa in their Barratt Home semi, when suddenly, the couple start to come onto him. He jumps up in panic, spilling his tea, and runs out the house screaming: 'Get away from me, you, you, SEX people!' [more...] | ||

| When I first moved to Sheffield in 1994, I quickly calculated that the city is approximately 20 years behind every other urban connobation in the country. This is the case in just about every area of life, including economy, architecture, fashion, politics and hairstyles (yes, the mullet is still alive and well in South Yorkshire). Music may seem like the obvious exception, with Sheffield bands such as The Arctic Monkeys, The Long Blondes and Reverend and the Makers leading the new pop revolution. But listen carefully, and you will realise their success is precisely due to the fact that they sound [more...] | ||

| 5 Apr 08 | Funny Games (2) | (6 Apr 08, 12:20 AM by DDDDom) |
| I like to push my limits. I am not someone to find my comfort zone and then sit in it, surrounded by fluffy cushions, boxes of Quality Street, and Bridget Jones' Diary on the DVD. But this time I think I took it too far. [more...] | ||

| 12 Mar 08 | Fear of Falling (2) | (13 Mar 08, 10:51 AM by cherubrequired) |
| There is a lot of talk in these here hills of the concepts of 'fear' 'risk' 'trust'. Those three terms are a triptych in the BDSM gallery. I can almost see them they have been conjured up so vividly. [more...] | ||
| 6 Mar 08 | Four Chambers (1) | (7 Mar 08, 9:27 AM by PFLsAgain) |
| 1985. Biology class. Our young hormonal bodies are trapped under the bell jar of our schooling. We want to escape outside and explore our own biology. We are fascinated by the differences between 'Boy' and 'Girl', 'X' and 'Y', 'Sex' and 'Love'. But we are stuck behind big wooden tables, forced for the next painful 90 minutes to listen to the droning of the teacher. [more...] | ||

| 28 Jan 08 | Trust #1 | (28 Jan 08, 9:59 PM by newfavourite) |
| I did not sleep well as a child. I would postpone as long as possible, that terrifying moment when I had to settle down in my bed, close my eyes and give in to the mercy of the thick black night. For I did not trust that the world would be quite as I left it if I slipped out of my wakeful vigil. And more often than not, I was right. [more...] | ||

| 23 Jan 08 | Strap-on the Sauvignon. (6) | (24 Jan 08, 9:02 PM by newfavourite) |
| It's a mid-week evening in January, in a northern middle-class home. The Sainsbury's Sauvignon is magically appearing from the fridge, finding our open mouths so effortlessly. We stand around admiring the newly-converted designer (yet rustic) kitchen. Tonight, conversation is easy, relaxed. We know each other well enough not to have to make too much of an effort. There is no need to impress with our sparkling wit or our in-depth knowledge of what the guardian says about the latest Cohen brothers film (it's not a patch on Fargo though is it?). [more...] | ||
