| 21 Dec 09 | The mid point of wintertide (2) | (22 Dec 09, 6:37 PM by mazadan) |
| So here we are at the midpoint of the wintertide. Today is the solstice I have had a nice meal of couscous, rice and other things, later a pudding of the yuletide type but topped with cherries, pecans and clotted cream that wonderful food of the gods from the west country in particular Kernow. Sadly it had been a grey day and now it draws to a close it has gotten a little flat as well. [more...] | ||
| 20 Dec 09 | yule blessings (2) | (22 Dec 09, 6:36 PM by mazadan) |
| We are on the eve of solstice tomorrow will be the shortest day of the year . it will be a time to celebrate the standing still of the sun and it will be at its weakest but after it will grown in strength. It has been the most beautiful of winter days a bright sun and a clear pale blue sky and the ground white with snow. [more...] | ||
| 22 Dec 09 | the gifts we really want | (22 Dec 09, 3:39 PM by mazadan) |
| Slowly, so slowly the snow thaws and what was white now is back to the winter colours. The cold is now quite raw it had been razor sharp but this cold is damp and bone shilling. Work is ever so busy which is good, but I do wonder at how much people do buy and what they will dispose of after Yule and not been touched. [more...] | ||
| 19 Dec 09 | You Left Me by Rabindranath Tagore | (19 Dec 09, 4:47 PM by mazadan) |
| You Left Me by Rabindranath Tagore You left me and went on your way. I thought I should mourn for you and set your solitary image in my heart wrought in a golden song. But ah, my evil fortune, time is short. Youth wanes year after year; the spring days are fugitive; the frail flowers die for nothing, and the wise man warns me that life is but a dewdrop on the lotus leaf. Should I neglect all this to gaze after one who has turned her back on me? That would be rude and foolish, for time is short. Then, come, my rainy nights with pattering feet; smile, my golden autumn; come, careless April, scatter- ing [more...] | ||
| 18 Dec 09 | a winter wonderland | (18 Dec 09, 4:37 PM by mazadan) |
| As I peer out of the window the sky is clear and the sun has set upon this day. Such a clear sky now, though last night the sky let loose a good fall of snow and the world around here came to a halt. But it is like that here in Scotland it is different for the snow is expected and provision made. But we never get it long enough to warrant spending on such precaution. [more...] | ||
| 17 Dec 09 | ooooooooooh brrrr its nesh | (17 Dec 09, 3:51 PM by mazadan) |
| Cold oh so cold, I often wonder what the cold is like in Scandinavia or in the Midwest of Canada even the Siberian taiga. For we here in the UK have it bone chillingly damp. Dry cold I would assume is a far better prospect. I do dress for the cold and tend never to feel it as such but the damp can creep in. But oh on those sunny days in winter when there is no wind but a sky of the most exquisite blue, and a low yellow sun trying its best to warm us all. [more...] | ||

| 16 Dec 09 | a solstice story of sorts | (16 Dec 09, 2:55 PM by mazadan) |
| The wind blew round the last leaves hanging on the boughs out the small house, and set them free from the branch to fall to earth and to become part of it. The day that started so bright and deeply frosty now holds snow in its grip. [more...] | ||

| What a flat grey day. It has been the most wintery of days here in the depths of Kent. I would say quite typical of the English weather for the time of year, it is only now when the sun is starting to set and the day is ending do the clouds part and the world finds colour. And so the day ends I did not post a blog yesterday,, I had a reverse lay in I got in from work and was feeling a little drowsy. [more...] | ||

| 11 Dec 09 | Snow, Axes and a little rant | (11 Dec 09, 5:12 PM by mazadan) |
| Well what a week it has been weather wise mild almost like an early autumn rather than winter. And now well the cold bites at the heels of this errant blogger. Though we may moan and groan about this damp rather wet time we have been having in part of the USA and of course Canada it is a very different story. One of blizzards and deep snow, and though the pictures seem very dramatic to us mostly over that side of the water they take it their stride. We get less that a quarter inch here and the world as we know it comes to a standstill, there it can be 3 to 4 feet deeps and people just get on with [more...] | ||

| 9 Dec 09 | some new gear and a bit about language (1) | (9 Dec 09, 8:11 PM by Prunesquallor) |
| Well the day started bright well for me it started with a waning moon high in the sky. Bright she was effulgent in glorious splendour. And as I sat here and watch the night turn to day all around was awakening to winter brightness. Sadly though as the day has slipped by it has turned a grey flat day that is typical of this time of year and soon it will be the middling of this part of the year. For just around the corner is the solstice and we tip in to the days of increasing light. [more...] | ||

| 4 Dec 09 | just thoughts today | (4 Dec 09, 4:29 PM by mazadan) |
| Well the weather has turned a little there was the faintest whisper of a frost. And well to that end it was blooming chilly. The day for the most part was quite bright and sunny and now the evening has come well more a dark late afternoon it is over cast, such are the vagaries if winter weather. Winter time can be wonderful and there are times when it is deeply depressing. I did have a brief visit from my black dog totally unexpected. [more...] | ||

| Back at work today and I think I have talked myself into a job. I am to do the dry goods ordering after Yule. Oh well at least it might get done properly as the manager said you seem to know what is here more than anyone else. I think there are certain aspects that still are with me from when I had my business. One is never tie your capital up in stock. And we always carry too much at work in our dept. [more...] | ||
