| Well what a warm summery day, all at work are in a panic for when the great eye of heaven shines the hoi polloi come out to play. Though I will say it has not been that busy this week though tomorrow being Saturday who knows. The afternoon has so far been one of maintenance of my sharps, bannock making and a little work on my leister spear heads. Ash is quite a hard wood and I am working on the side prongs so do need to be careful. This is an interesting project the making of a traditional fishing spear I have two on the go one I am using yew as the main part and the other is out of Ash. I [more...] | ||

| 30 Mar 10 | wet tuesday thoguths | (30 Mar 10, 5:24 PM by mazadan) |
| Today is one of rain but rain is good. And well as the quote goes “ some people walk in the rain, others just get wet” An interview with James lovelock the Author of the Gaia hypothesis says it is too late for us to 'save the earth' I tend to agree with him well the earth will survive but we will not we have stripped her bare gone beyond the point of no return, all we can do now and enjoy the time we have. But what of the future the people yet to come we have left a sad legacy for them. I walk in some woods and most of the sign I see is that of human waste empty bottles bits of car etc. It would [more...] | ||
| 26 Mar 10 | catching up (1) | (27 Mar 10, 1:21 AM by Caracal) |
| Well been a while since I wrote. Sao where to begin, been spending time at Avalon's. Good times and what joy it always is to be there in her company and well to find a love unexpected. It is only a short bus ride to see here and I have three days off in the week and life just gets better. Work is as work does I suppose nothing new, same round of frustration etc. So when visiting Avalon's she is often working through the day or part of it this gives me time to practise my camping and bushcraft skills. So it is off to the woods hitch up tarp and hammock and see what I need to take and what can stay [more...] | ||

| Still a very raw day, and apparently one of the coldest winters for 33 years. I sit here with the little heater on and outside it is over cast a light grey day not the deep and depressing greyness of mid winter. It is the wind that adds to the cold the great shifting of air which makes the trees sway and us add an extra layer of clothing. In the sheltered spots it is milder and of course in the woods it would be nice. [more...] | ||
| 9 Mar 10 | off to the woods | (9 Mar 10, 3:27 PM by mazadan) |
| Been a good weekend! Went for an impromptu trip to see Avalon and spend time with her the lady in my life. Well arrived on Saturday late afternoon tired as usual when I arrived. But then I have done a full shift at work and would have been up since around 02:00. So Sunday awoke and breakfast and a walk to some local woods. Around Tunbridge wells the woodland is quite mixed with a predominance of Larch, Scots pine and Birch, the wind though quite sharp wand cutting was not really felt whilst walking through the trees, but the sun shone dappled the woodland floor. And all about there was the sound [more...] | ||
| 3 Mar 10 | weekend away | (3 Mar 10, 3:50 PM by mazadan) |
| Had the most spiffing of weekends, even the weather could not dampen the spirit. Went over to Tunbridge wells and spent three days with the beatific Avalon. Arrived after work on the Saturday and promptly fell asleep which is hardly surprising as I had done six days on the trot. So settled and after my doze a superb Mac cheese was served. So the next day we went for a walk, and as many of you will know it rained. A right cats and dogs day but this did not put us off. Donning walking boots and poncho for myself and brolly for Avalon, walking around Dunorlan park was joy. Found some Himalayan [more...] | ||
| 25 Feb 10 | extreme weather and a few thoughts on bushcraft | (25 Feb 10, 4:48 PM by mazadan) |
| The rain comes and goes here in the deep south east of England, in Scotland snow and quite a bit of it a few avalanches and sadly people being caught in them. We always have a love hate relationship with weather and going out to places that in the normal course of events are just a bit dangerous. [more...] | ||

| 21 Feb 10 | sweet dreams | (21 Feb 10, 4:12 PM by mazadan) |
| Well here we are in February, shrove Tuesday has past and also valentines. Outside they day is grey but brightish and all is good. Had intended to spend time at Avalon's but oh the vagaries of work . In the past week I have added another skill, that of what is known as French knitting. Looking in a book of knots written by Clifford Ashley, it is known as sinnets. In learning this skill it will enable me to do this in wire and therefore some wire knitted jewellery. Also in a way it is a bushcraft skill especially the square knot sinnet all one needs is a small forked stick and one to act as the [more...] | ||

| Spring is poking its head up slowly. This morning a heavy frost and a crisp bite to the air and the grass crunching under foot. And well the days pass and get longer, we are now in lent which is from the Germanic word for spring. And so the year passes and turns in its cycle, soon some will celebrate Passover others Easter and myself and other the spring Equinox. [more...] | ||
| 17 Feb 10 | a nice very nice weekend | (17 Feb 10, 3:36 PM by mazadan) |
| A fine weekend but all too soon it came to an end. The weather was fine but cold, the odd snow shower here and there. So Saturday saw me nipping over to Tunbridge wells. Three days with the Lady in my life. We walked in some woods nearby and what joy it was. It is mixed woodland Birch, sycamore, wild cherry and oak with a smattering of ash and hawthorn. And of course quite, quite damp. [more...] | ||

| 8 Feb 10 | an ancient poem and quite apt for here | (8 Feb 10, 6:00 PM by mazadan) |
| Submission Your moist, warm breath upon my skin Ignites a pulsing flame within. Words can't describe the burn I feel. My world is false, but you are real. One lasting taste, one fatal kiss Will leave me in eternal bliss. You know your power over me, So why prolong my misery? I can't withstand your deadly lure. My life is yours. Of that, I'm sure. So when you choose to seal my fate, It will be worth the gruelling wait. | ||
