| I attend my GP's surgery very rarely mainly because I tend to believe any illnesses I suffer are caused by hypochondria. This can be counterproductive like the time I had quinsy. The doctor told me quinsy is very rare these days and implied that any reasonable person would have attended for treatment before it developed to that stage. It is complicated by the fact that I have managed to diagnose myself correctly (confirmed by a psychiatrist) on one occasion with a form of manic depression. | Apart from a passage in a book I shouldn't have been reading which had a naked woman in a collar and lead being made to lick the floor the only childhood reference to my future habits was an obsessional interest in the Joyce Mckinney case. I would have been about 10 when it happened and I remember spending an inordinately long time reading and re-reading the articles in The News of The World about the case.
