"That'll Teach 'Em" is recreating a 1950's boarding school with teenagers and is on to its second episode, and last night saw the first episode of "Masters and Servants" in which two families take turns at the two roles on consecutive weeks. | Yesterday I was searching for Vanilla Clothing Item X (with a perverse purpose in mind.) I tried naively sticking the name of X into Google, along with UK, hoping to get some UK high street or maybe mail order retailers. No such luck. All I got were automatically generated pages saying "Click here for links to Vanilla Clothing Item X. We have all the best Vanilla Clothing Item X brands..." that had been spammed into Google to trap people like me into looking at the same mediocre online shopping site. [more...] | ||

| The Observer had the following story last weekend: http://observer.guardian.co.uk/magazine/story/0,... about Tranquility Bay, a "behaviour-modification centre" run by an American company in Jamaica. Various specious reasons are given for this location on their website: http://www.difficultteens-tranquilitybay.com/ but in reality, it's the same justification as that other famous Caribbean "facility", at Guantanamo Bay: it's outside US legal jurisdiction so they can do what the hell they like to people. | I went to "A Few More Beers" again - a monthly Friday night, er, "pub event" in Manchester - and I must say it's getting very good. We're now up to events every weekend in the city in 4-weekend months. | ||

| A local branch of the Church of England religious sect - going by the name "Southwark Cathedral" - has launched an attack on Club Wicked in London (who are quite controversial in the London scene, but that's not really the issue.) Complaining to the council, the local group's leader - using the title The Dean as part of "Church hierarchy" - alleged that there is "evidence that the primary purpose of the club is as a BDSM club." | There's been a few references to "The Matrix" films already in the weblogs on IC and I expect references to it will crop up again after the second film, "The Matrix Reloaded" starts appearing in UK cinemas from today. These films have a bunch of themes which it's tempting to relate to BDSM and our interaction with the mainstream, vanilla world, including some of the intolerance and demands for conformity that I found in my inbox this morning. | To put it bluntly, IC has been grinding to a halt for
the last month or so, especially at peak times (is there
something really boring on at 5pm on a Sunday?? )
Over the weekend, I've upgraded the system and it should
now be able to cope with another year of growth.
I'm also putting more duplication into the whole system
so it can cope better with hardware failures (there's
been a bit of that too) and get things on a more solid
basis in that respect. So this explains IC's absence
over night, but given it's now running on completely new
hardware, I think it's been a relatively transparent
changeover. | ||
