I didn't like Juno, but if you didn't, don't let that put you off. It's charming, unique, hilarious, beautiful, poignant, interesting. Top notch writing, photography and performances. So good. Don't miss it. It's a movie you'll keep thinking about, that keeps coming back to you and mean more the more you think about it. Love it. [more...]

14 Jan 10See the story about the dismembered salesman? (2)(14 Jan 10, 5:02 PM by proccie)
I bet his career fell to pieces after that.
7 Jan 10Economic Fallacies #1: Price Gouging (5)(13 Jan 10, 3:03 PM by DaddysTouch)
It's easy to get frustrated when people express the same economic misunderstandings over and over. It's not surprising, a lot of economic ideas aren't always immediately intuitive, emotional responses come easily, most people don't study economics in school, and when they do it's usually taught badly, focussing on graphs and cost curves instead of telling stories and explaining things people see in their everyday lives. I'd like to have a stab at that. [more...]
6 Jan 10Trip to London (2)(7 Jan 10, 8:14 AM by RubyRouge)
It's mighty cold in London today. So cold, in fact, that I just saw a politician with his hands in his own pockets. ZING!
6 Jan 10GRE Test (3)(6 Jan 10, 6:21 PM by DaddysTouch)
I'll have to take the GRE this October, I think. Anyone taken it before? Any tips? Suggestions for books/websites to help me study for it? [more...]

25 Dec 09*slump* (1)(25 Dec 09, 7:31 PM by Ozymandias1)
Cooked Christmas dinner, watched santa hand out presents from his 'grotto' (read: car port) across the road, ate Christmas dinner, played some Dragon Age, laid out a one-person buffet, watched Something, Something, Something, Darkside, ate a one-person buffet. Now sitting enjoying some 18 year old Macallan (that's whisky, not a chick called Macallan, unfortunately) and not wanting to read the text book that's giving me disapproving looks from across the room. 23 Dec 09Them sissies at Yale (3)(23 Dec 09, 7:50 PM by CookieMonster)
Have banned the use of the word sissy. Hopefully the faggots at Dartmouth will stick to the first half of their state's motto so I can continue to make fun of Harvard students, as all good Americans should.

23 Dec 09Alice Ch. 04 Part 1 (1)(23 Dec 09, 4:25 PM by FairyGirl)
I have to apologise for my tardiness, it's been six months since I last posted a chapter of Alice. A few people have seen bits of it, but I've been so busy I've not got around to finishing it until now. Hope you enjoy. [more...]
21 Dec 09Snow: What not to do (12)(22 Dec 09, 5:01 PM by DaddysTouch)
So, I get a call at about 5pm from a local girl friend. She's about a third of the way home (a journey that usually takes about a half hour) and in floods of tears. The roads are gridlocked and icy, and she doesn't have enough petrol to make it home. There's a queue for petrol, and she doesn't think hers will last her to the front of the queue. What's more, she has left her phone at home, so is using the one behind the counter at Morrisons, and her parents aren't in (perhaps it's inherited...). [more...]
18 Dec 09Avatar (8)(19 Dec 09, 10:52 PM by such_serenity)
Hollow, lifeless and without weight in its animation, utterly moronic in its theme (singular). The Smurfs do Terminator.

17 Dec 09Firestone Walker (6)(17 Dec 09, 3:52 PM by Wiley_Kit)
Anyone know where I can find some Firestone Walker Pale Ale in the UK? I buy Samuel Adams, Anchor and even Castle and Eagle online but nowhere seems to have Firestone. I'll try the PX store on the US airbase near me when I visit home for Christmas but I doubt they'll have it either so if anyone has any idea that'd be great. [more...]
15 Dec 09Statistics: Relationships before marriage? (3)(15 Dec 09, 4:26 PM by Mrs_Morningstar)
A long shot but I couldn't find anything myself, have emailed some folks but thought I'd try here just in case: Does anyone have any data on the average number of relationships (by whatever definition e.g. > 1 month, > 1 year etc) people in the western world have before they marry?
