A poly relationship is one where an adult is involved in a romantic relationship with two or more consenting adults. This takes a huge variety of forms and can involve close knit groupings (such as a triad with three people all involved with each other) among other things.
Polyamory literally means many loves and generally means someone is open to having more then one loving and romantic relationship at once. The key is relationship - not fling! Non-monogamy is more general and just means a relationship style which is not monogamous and includes people like swingers.
It has been said that Poly (capital P) is the close-knit version and
poly(small p) is sleeping around.See also
