A thong may be:
* A strap, usually made of leather (hence to thong - to strike with a thong)
* The lash of a whip
* A rubber sandal with a thong between the big and second toes (also
called a flip-flop) Thong (lingerie)
A thong is a type of lingerie or underwear consisting of a narrow strip of material running through the crotch with each end affixed to a cord or narrow band round the waist. It may be worn by men or women.
It is usually made of cotton or nylon, but fetish versions are available in many materials.
The effect of this design is that the bottom is prominently displayed. Some leotards and bodysuits are thong-cut at the bottom to achieve the same effect. The strip through the crotch may have an effect on the wearer similar to a crotch rope.
Thongs are sometimes worn under tight trousers or skirts to minimise VPL.
