Levi is a gay term referring to a manner of dress, particularly jeans and jean-jackets manufactured by Levi-Strauss with metal fasteners, unlike the usual zippers. These are the original jeans. Levis are also very San Franciso. Starting in the 60s, it appeared in guides to gay venues as an indication of the usual dress code. Leather-Levi, often abbreviated LL, indicated a venue where butch behavior and dress were the rule (as opposed to places like piano bars). LL did not necessarily indicate a serious S&M venue.
