Hypnosis is a state of altered consciousness associated with increased levels of suggestibility, and the practice of inducing such a state in yourself or other people.
Broadly speaking BDSM related hypnosis can be separated into two categories.
Hypnodomination is the use of hypnosis in a D/s relationship to further increase the obedience and suggestibility of a submissive to a dominant.
Hypnofetishism is a sexual fetish related to the act of
hypnosis, either as a hypnotist or subject. It may also encompass
hypnotic paraphernalia such spirals and pocket watches. Hypnotherapist Footnote
Of interest to the Informed Consent reader is that all hypnosis is in fact self-hypnosis. The hypnotherapist could be likened to someone leading a guided meditation. A pre-hypnosis discussion informs both parties of the intended outcome of a session. The hypnotherapist then facilitates relaxation in order than the other may find the optimum altered state. It is when in this altered state that any change work would be done. The person under hypnosis will consider all suggestions at their unconscious level and make behavioural changes only if it is what they want. Refer now back to the agreed outcome as per the pre- session discussion.
On completion of a session it is vital that the person under hypnosis is confirmed to be fully conscious before they leave the place of therapy. Traditional countdown followed by an abrupt "breaking state" works very well. 10....5 you are feeling more and more awake...2 you open your eyes and 1 you are fully conscious and aware of your surroundings.
breaking state: Asking a question totally out of context or offering food or beverage are ways of breaking state, "snapping" them out of the twilight zone and back to reality in other words. This should be done AFTER the countdown.
In the D/s setting of course the actions taken to facilitate
relaxation may include one or more journeys into the world of pain and
pleasure.External links
