"three big ISPs, BT, Carphone Warehouse and Virgin Media have announced plans to use your clickstream data to insert relevant ads as you surf through a new startup called Phorm."

That means they will record all the sites you visit and sell the data to Phorm, who will then display relevant ads when you look at sites that get their ads from Phorm.
Obviously, a financially profitable database of every site you've looked at has other implications given Labour's anti-SM agenda

True, but the problem isn't the ads - websites already have ads, and anyone not wanting to see them will already use Adblock. (And if anything, at least targetted ads might be more likely to be useful.) The problem is selling your web history to a 3rd party company. They claim it will be anonymised so it can't be traced back, how true that is, I don't know.
Note that the Slashdot summary doesn't seem to be correct - it talks about ISPs inserting ads into your stream, but reading the articles and the comments, I don't think that's happening at all.

I like the way conspiracy theorists use bits of knowledge which look relevant, when they aren't, to back up their theories.
Steel does not need to melt to lose its strength, it just has to get a bit hot. Rolling mills use this property all the time to create girders, steel plate and railway lines, Hot steel is very pliable and has very little structural strength. Blacksmiths manage to do the same thing without having to melt steel.
There was a fire in WTC 7, it is just that no one bothered to fight it. The Fire Department had more pressing matters on their minds. The current thinking is the design of the building, coupled with an ignored fire, contributed to its collapse.
Why wouldn't a building collapse at free fall speed? after all the acceleration due to gravity is the same for all objects. Once the steel had lost its strength there was very little slowing it down.

If, as you state, no steel building collapsed due to fire prior to the WTC collapses then could you explain what caused The Kader Toy Factory to collapse on May 10th 1993 while the Fire Department were at it fighting a fire?
Or the steel roof of the McCormick Place in Chicago collapsed on On Jan 16, 1967 while the Fire Department were there fighting a fire?
Or even the $15 million dollar Sight and Sound Theater in Lancaster County, Pa collapsed on January of 1997, while the Fire Department were there fighting a fire?
We must also ask for an explanation of how the Katrantzos Sport Department Store in Athens collapsed on Dec 19, 1980, while the Fire Department were there fighting a fire?
On May 21, 1987, in Sao Paulo a substantial partial collapse of the central core of the tall CESP Building 2 occurred, while the Fire Department were there fighting a fire.
Lastly what about the collapse of a textile factory in Alexandria, Egypt, on July 19, 2000 while the Fire Department were there fighting a fire.
One explanation could be invisible flying saucers attracted by the flames wanted to have a barbecue and landed on the roof. Being aliens they didn't know the building couldn't take the weight and it collapsed.
In future when Big Ted tells you to look through the round window, bear in mind it isn't true.

At the moment in the ISP market, the emphasis is on cheaper and cheaper rates (and speed to a lower extend). ISPs are desperately trying to make as much money from the data they gather anyway as their margins are more and more squeezed (well, boohoo !).
When the market will become a bit more mature, I am pretty sure that we will see some ISPs trying to differenciate themselves with values like quality of service, and privacy will probably be among them. That will cost the users more as they will have to get the money they can't have through selling our data but I am sure that if the users become more aware and worried with such breaches of privacy, then a market will emerge.
In the meantime, you can always use an anonymiser (just google for anonymous proxy), there are even some free ones. It's not a permanent solution as ISPs are aware of them and might block them, though.

There were a lot of firsts for the WTC. In all the history of high-rise fires, not one has ever been hit with a plane traveling 500 miles an hour and had its fire proofing removed from its trusses. In all the history of high-rise fires, not one has ever had its steel columns which hold lateral load sheared off by a 767. In all the history of high-rise fires, not one has ever been a building which had its vertical load bearing columns in its core removed by an airliner. Lucky to insure them? Well there had been a previous attempt to bring them down before, and silverstein UNDER-insured, in fact he actually wanted to insure for them for even less than they were eventually insured.

A straw man, nobody has claimed that molten steel was the cause of the collapse, except for ironically some conspiracy nuts who subscribe to the various thermite theorys.

There have been fires in buildings raging for days that have not collapsed. In fact in recorded history only 3 multistorey buildings have ever collapsed due to fire alone. WTC 1, WTC 2 and building 7.
We are talking modern high rise buildings here.... not factories, small outlets or low buildings or anything quoted by Bohnanza.
Perhaps the anti-conspiracy theorists can explain the presence of thermite at the WTC ground zero site - a substance ONLY ever found where explosives have been used. When buildings have been blown up by terrorists, thermite is what CSI type people look for and use as evidence in court and yet for some bizarre reason the official 911 commission completely ignores this issue.
It just so happens that both WTC building were designed specifically to withstand a direct impact from large aircraft - and indeed insurance for this happening was taken out 2 months beforehand.
And, boy if you think 6 Arab terrorists went unchallenged armed only with a plastic box cutter, took over 6 aircraft and defeated NORAD - the multi billion dollar defense system designed SPECIFICALLY to target, locate and confront any threat whatsoever, terrorist, domestic or foreign to the region of North America - then you clearly live in cuckoo land. Absolute cuckoo land.
NORAD even tracks space debris circling the globe... they can zoom in, target and locate almost anything at will - they can read newspaper headlines from spy satellites....

Every year anything that even slightly remotely seems like a 'dodgy' situation over US airspace such as an aircraft drifting off course or the like is met with jet fighters being scrambled to check out the situation. This happens approx 120 times per year.
None were sent to any of the 6 aircraft on 911.
Q : WHY ?
We also have to address the issue of why on 911 the only planes allowed to fly were - the BIN LADEN FAMILY ???? Out of the US to Canada ?
And that doesn't sound suspicious ?
Do the police whisk away witnesses or possible contact sources as quickly as possible from a crime scene ?
Or do they bring em in for interview ASAP ?
Talking of crime scenes. Forensics. When a crime occurs and it's big. CSI is brought into US locations of crime - forgot what ours are called here, but we have similar. Their job (as you've seen from the CSI tv shows) is to forensicate the area for more clues.
The area at 911..... was..... forensicated asap ?
