BDSM / Fetish Listings Help Page

What does this page cover?
This is about Informed Consent's online BDSM Listings for the UK (and other countries.) The Listings are divided into sections, containing different types of specific BDSM items: events, shops, links - that sort of thing. Both purely offline resources (eg shops without a website) and purely online sites are included.

Where do the listings entries come from?
We hunt down some of the information ourselves, but most is contributed to Informed Consent by our visitors, submitted directly to the website using their (free) Informed Consent profile.

How can I contribute information?
By far the best way is to visit the appropriate section of the Listings and use the Create new item button at the top of that page (if you've not already got a free Informed Consent profile, you'll need to join first.)

What restrictions are there on items?
Please respect the following limitations when contributing to the Listings:
  • Items should only be placed in appropriate sections, and be listed under the country in which they are based.
  • Only items which are specifically about BDSM or Fetish will be listed.
  • You should not use hype or distracting wording when describing an item.
  • The title of each item should be the name of the business, organisation or event. We will not accept items with names like "AAA My Shop Name" or "A great shop: My Shop Name".
  • Preference will be given to items submitted by the owner of the organisation or business in question.
  • It is illegal for us to accept adverts listing different prices for men and women: please don't try to submit wording which does.
  • No ads for pro-top services (ie doing BDSM scenes for money.)
  • We will not accept ads for "pay for play" events, including "multi-slave" parties run by pro-tops, and spanking / school roleplay parties at which bottoms are supplied as part of the price.
  • Furthermore, we will not accept ads for commercial events in the Event Dates section which are more expensive than the Skin Two "Rubber Ball" (£38 in 2006.)
  • Items consisting of minimally repackaged "turn-key" shop or personal ads businesses - especially when all fulfillment is carried out by a third party - will not be accepted.
  • We reserve the right to determine whether to list an item in this free service at our sole discretion.

How are items approved?
To keep spam out of the Listings, we manually approve each item to make it visible to other users. (You can see your own items in the Listings until then, with the title struck through like this.) If you item isn't approved, it will remain struck through and have a comment about re-editing it to bring it into line with the above list of restrictions. It will take anything between 14 minutes and 14 days for items to be checked, so please be patient.

How long do items stay in the Listings?
To keep this item visible in the Listings on IC, you need to edit it every 12 months. (It's sufficient to edit and resend it using the edit form without changing anything if you've checked the details are still correct.)

Who can edit an entry?
In short, the original contributor or the person who "owns" the shop, event etc.
When an entry is submitted, the profile name of the contributor is recorded and displayed at the end of the entry. If the contributor views the section including their entry, they will see an option to edit that entry, so they can fix mistakes or make updates.

What if I spot a mistake but don't have the authority to edit an entry?
Please email webmaster AT informedconsent.co.uk and we'll try to sort it out. (If it's your shop, event, website etc, your best course of action is to join IC, submit a corrected item and then contact us to get the old item removed.)

Who owns the information in the Listings?
By submitting information to the Listings, contributors are granting Informed Consent a non-exclusive license to publish the data on the web, on newsgroups and mailing lists, in printed newsletters and in other media, as services to the UK BDSM community.
If you wish to reproduce any of the information from the Listings, on the web or in any other medium, please contact us first.

What about the event dates?
For the UK Event Dates list, you can reproduce them without asking, subject to certain conditions. (The conditions are there so people know where the data came from originally and can send us corrections, updates and additions.)

  • Please don't reproduce the whole list: just link to it on Informed Consent itself.

  • Please retain any [Contributed by ...] statement in the event details: this way contributors still get proper credit.

  • To reproduce events on a website, please include the following HTML immediately before the event(s):

The following event data is from <a href="http://www.informedconsent.co.uk/">Informed Consent</a>. See their <a href="http://www.informedconsent.co.uk/uk/event_dates/">list of event dates</a> for more events.

  • To reproduce events on mailing list or newsgroup posts, please include the following text immediately before the event(s):

The following event data is from Informed Consent. For more event details see: http://www.informedconsent.co.uk/uk/event_dates/

  • For other media, including printed media, please contact us directly.
